Assignment 1

Education has a great role and importance in modern industrial societies. Thailand is one of the countries in ASEAN community, it is very important to prepare students in our country to work in different culture, technology and economic environment. The purposes of preparing them are to share values, understanding of socio-cultural systems, promote peace and political security.
The entire global problem, whether it’s elimination of poverty, creation of peace, environmental problems etc there are multiple solutions but the solutions always include education component. Over the decades, education is about preparing students for a specific career, lifelong values and discipline. But to prepare the students for 21st century, we need more to meet the expectation which requires abilities to cop up with difference cultures, creativity, technology innovation, design skills and abilities to explore new ideas. As we are now direct contact and competition with many countries around the globe, we have to start focus on preparing our students from now.
How to meet these requirements?
  • Prepare children for citizenship
  • Teach cultural literacy
  • Help students to become creative thinkers, technology innovation and design skills.
  • Help student to be imaginative, communicative and multilingual
  • Help students compete in a global marketplace
Teaching and learning approaches should be base on Student-centered for active learning. Every teacher will have the skills to deliver 21st Century context with 21st Century tools and technology that guarantees students learning. Process-orientation should be use to allow identifying the student’s process and strategies to solve problems. Suitable and effective instructional Material should be use to transfer accurate knowledge. Create a learning environment, which challenges students; develop critical thinking and the process of knowledge construction. For example, teachers can enhance the thinking skills of learners through doing such activities as reasoning, decision making, reflecting, making inferences and problem solving. Use technology to solve problem or to create fun in learning. These types of activities encourage students to engage cognitively and emotionally with the learning tasks. The latter activity, especially, can be done by building an environment that allows students to examine complex problems using a wide variety of resources, develop their own strategies for solve these problems, and present and negotiate solutions to these problems in a collaborative manner.
Technology plays very important role in preparing the students. Technology helps to increase the teaching and learning quality. These software materials can be slides and slide projector, disks and movie projector, cassettes and tape recorder, program or software regarding education, CD-DVD and computer etc. These materials should be accurate and suitable for student to learn. The instructional materials will help the students in learning and understanding, to transfer the accurate content to student, to make teaching & learning and curriculum more interesting and also to save time. Not only providing facilities regarding technology is important but to teach students about technology is also very important. For example: Teacher can let students create their own blog and share their work, thoughts, comments etc with each other. This is the best way of collaborating and active learning.
In my opinion, Thailand has improving in all contexts. As you can see the number of exchange students in increasing to provide cultural diversity and tablet is provided for better education in school. I would like to recommend all schools to focus on global needs and growth. Prepare students to compete with the world as children today is future of tomorrow.

    Microsoft demos instant English-Chinese translation

    From BBC News

Software that can translate spoken English into spoken Chinese almost instantly has been demonstrated by Microsoft. The software preserves intonation and cadence so the translated speech still sounds like the original speaker.

This translation became possible, he said, thanks to research done in Microsoft labs that built on earlier breakthroughs.

"Of course, there are still likely to be errors in both the English text and the translation into Chinese, and the results can sometimes be humorous," said Mr Rashid in the blogpost. "Still, the technology has developed to be quite useful."

Many different technology companies, including AT&T and Google, have similar projects under way that are attempting to do simultaneous translation. NTT Docomo has shown off a smartphone app that lets Japanese people call foreigners and lets both speak in their native tongue.

The researchers at IBM teamed up with Lyon, France, to develop the technology that helps the traffic operators to reduce congestions on the road, and maintain an easy traffic flow.

The researchers said they process the real time traffic data, which helps in “predictive traffic management technology” to determine how to keep traffic flowing. It technology is called as “Decision Support System Optimizer” or DSSO, which can detect incidents, predict the impact of these incidents, predicts traffic and suggests the best course of action to solve a problem.

For example it helps the operators to adjust the traffic signals, so that other cars detour quickly when an ambulance is rushing fast on the particular road. “Piloting this analytics technology will help the city anticipate and avoid many traffic jams before they happen, and lessen their impact on citizens,” Gerard Collomb, Lyon’s mayor, said in a statement, reports Mashable. “Using the data that we are collecting to make more informed decisions will help us to promote about how to resolve unexpected traffic events, and optimize public transportation.”

Delhi gang-rape: How technology can prevent such cases

    http://www.ciol.com/ciol/news/155069/delhi-gang-rape-how-technology-prevent

Unlike in India, other countries have adopted advanced technologies to prevent crimes in public places
    News | by Pragyan Acharya
BANGALORE, INDIA: 'The India's bravehart' is no more. But is there any guarantee that there will not be another gang-rape in the near future? The Delhi rape case is a classic example of how insecure women are in the country.
Such incidents have happened in the past and are still happening. Isn't there a solution? Of course, there is. Sophisticated and advanced technology can prevent such incidents, if not curb completely. That is possible only with adoption of technology as has been done in other countries.
India has established its presence in the global market for its achievements in IT/ITeS space. Yet, the usage of technology for ensuring law and order in the society is minimal. Stricter laws and fast track courts ensure justice is done to the victim, but it is only with the help of technology, the law enforcement agencies can prevent crimes.
Here are some of technologies adopted by various countries to prevent crime:

    1. Hi-tech flashlights

    2. Car slowdown technology

    3. Deployment of 'Soft technology

    4. Pan city CCTVs

    5. Predictive Analytics Technology
